A cookie is a small file a site asks your browser to keep. What matters is not the file but what it is for, so this page is arranged by purpose rather than by name.
Necessary cookies
These remember the choices a page cannot work without: the language you are reading in, and the state of anything you have opened or dismissed while reading. They hold a setting rather than an identity.
They are set because the page would misbehave without them, and there is no version of this site that works while refusing them. Nothing in this category is used to measure or to advertise.
Measurement cookies
These count which pages are read, which links inside them are followed and which searches are started. That is how a page that sends people the wrong way is found and rewritten, and it is the reason several routes on this site are shorter than the ones they replaced.
The counting is about pages rather than about people: what it answers is which paragraph lost the reader, not who the reader was. Refuse them in your browser and the search, the guides and the conditions all still work exactly as they do now.
The rental partner’s own cookies
The search and the reservation run on the rental partner’s booking system rather than on this domain, and that system sets its own cookies to keep your search together across the steps of a booking: the dates, the two places, the car you opened and the reservation in progress.
Those belong to the partner rather than to us, and the partner’s own policy governs them. No payment is taken on this domain at any point, and the reservation itself is completed on their side.
Refusing and clearing them
Every browser can block cookies, block them from a particular site, or clear what has already been kept, and the setting lives under privacy in that browser rather than on this page. Blocking the measuring category costs you nothing here.
If you clear them after reading, the pages simply forget the settings above and start from their defaults the next time. Nothing about a booking already made depends on a cookie on this device.
The privacy page
says where details go.
What the search sends, what the booking partner asks for, what the contact form carries, and who to write to about any of it.
