Fifteen clauses, grouped here by what they decide rather than reordered. The wording inside each quotation is the partner’s and is not edited; the sentences around them are ours.
The licence, the card and who may drive
These three decide more collections than everything else on this page put together, and all three are settled a week before you travel rather than at the handover.
Clause 13. “To rent a car, you must have a valid national driver’s license with details duplicated in Latin script. The expiry date on the license must be no earlier than the end date of the rental period. Copies or electronic licenses are not accepted. If your driver’s license is only valid in the country of issuance, we strongly recommend including an International Driving Permit (IDP) in your documents and providing it upon request.”
Clause 14. “Renting a car may require a mandatory physical embossed credit card in the name of the main driver. If a credit card is required, ensure that you have it with you when picking up the car. In some cases, rental companies may accept debit cards, which will also be specified during booking and in your voucher. The debit card must also be a physical, personalized card with embossed details and issued in the name of the main driver. Ensure that you have the card with you when picking up the car.”
Clause 12. “The driver’s minimum age and driving experience are listed on each car’s page. These requirements may vary even for similar models. The rental agent has the right to refuse to provide the service at any time if the driver’s age and/or driving experience does not meet the requirements for a particular car. Please use the filters to find cars that match your criteria.”
In practice: bring the licence itself, not a photograph of it; make sure the deposit card is physical and in the main driver’s name; and read the age and experience on the car rather than assuming a fleet-wide rule. Of all the places to be short of one, the airport handover is where a missing card is least fixable, because there is nowhere else to try.
What standard insurance excludes, and what cancels it
The exclusions are short and specific, and they are exactly the parts this coast damages. The second clause here is the one that turns an incident into a bill, and it is about what you do rather than what happened.
Clause 5. “Standard insurance does not cover damages to wheels, undercarriage, windscreen, and interior of the car.”
Clause 6. “In case of an insured event, you must immediately notify the rental agent and receive a police report, except as otherwise agreed with the agent. Failure to fulfil these conditions will cancel the insurance issued for the car and make you fully responsible.”
Clause 7. “The insurance is invalid in the event of deliberate damage to the car caused by intentional vandalism or neglect.”
In practice: photograph the wheels, the windscreen, the underside and the interior at the handover, with the person handing the car over. If anything happens, tell the rental company immediately and get a police report unless they agree otherwise. What a higher level of cover adds is described on each car rather than here.
Paved public roads, and leaving the country
One sentence governs every beach track, hill road and river island on this coast, and one governs the border half an hour south of Ulcinj.
Clause 8. “Rental cars are allowed to travel only on paved public roads.”
Clause 9. “If you plan to travel outside the country, please notify the rental agent in advance to complete the required documents.”
In practice: drive to where the sealed surface ends and walk the rest, whatever the car is. And choose the cross-border add-on when you book, which is what taking the car across the border turns on.
Time, fuel, charges and being contactable
These are the clauses that decide what the week costs beyond the booking, and the one that decides whether anybody can reach you.
Clause 1. “The minimum chargeable rental period is 24 hours. It means that if you rent a car for a few hours, you will be charged for a full day. For example, if you need a car from Monday morning to Tuesday afternoon, you will be charged for two full days.”
Clause 2. “If you want to extend your rental period, you must inform the rental agent in advance.”
Clause 3. “You must return your rental car with the same level of fuel you picked it up with. If the level of fuel is lower, you pay the difference at the rates of car rental company. If the level of fuel is higher, you are not compensated for the difference.”
Clause 11. “The payment for fuel, parking, fines, and toll roads is the responsibility of the renter.”
Clause 10. “The contact phone number with the correct country code provided at the time of booking must be available throughout the car rental period and on the day before pick-up. We do not accept any service quality claims, if it was impossible to contact the renter by mobile phone or messengers (Viber / WhatsApp / Telegram).”
In practice: count days rather than hours, tell the rental company before the rental ends if you want longer, return the fuel at the level you were given, and keep the phone you booked with switched on. That last one is how a delivery finds you at the collection points.
The state it comes back in, and one more rule
Two short clauses close the list: one about how the car looks when it arrives, and one about who travels in it.
Clause 4. “If the car is returned so dirty that it hinders its inspection, the car will be washed at the customer’s expense.”
Clause 15. “Only small pets may travel in rented cars and should be kept in their travel carriers at all times.”
In practice: ten minutes with a vacuum on the last morning after a week of beach days, and a carrier for a small dog if one is travelling. Then set your dates on the booking page for the next trip, where every car states its own version of the conditions above before you reserve it.
The car you choose
has the final word.
These conditions apply to every booking, and each car adds its own: the deposit, the cover level, the age and experience, and any delivery or one-way charge. All of it is stated before you reserve.
